The band that I

mixed, claimed that their reference tracks are Hybrid Moments, by the Misfits, Give ‘em Hell kid, by MCR and To end The Rapture, by Avenged Sevenfold. The band themselves were a crossover thrash metal band. The term Crossover Thrash refers to a subgenre of metal that uses elements of thrash metal - a fast and aggressive take on traditional metal, utilising double bass drumming, palm muted tremolo picking and power chords to make heavy riffs. To make crossover thrash, the latter is mixed with punk music (a style that evolved into the genre in the first place), (Crossover Thrash, 2020). The band utilises thrash metal riffing along side a more punk influenced beat and Luffmann’s hardcore influenced vocals, to create angry, expressive and aggressive music, known as crossover thrash. There are many thrash metal bands out there, which use elements of punk music in some areas of their compositions, this is due to how both genres go hand in hand together, due to the fact that Hardcore/Punk is essentially the mommy of thrash metal. Metal, especially thrash, was derived from punk music, and often made links back to their punk predecessors, for example, Iron Maiden Started out as a punk metal band, with punk style vocalist, Paul Di'anno, before moving into straight up metal territory, with Vocalist Bruce Dickinson. Another notable example that drove the genre forward was Motorhead, which played faster, and more chaotic metal with an influence on speed, and punk vocals by Lemmy Kilmister, as seen in this live performance of Ace Of Spades (JasonFoxify3, 2015). The band cited with truly first pioneering the genre were Suicidal Tendencies, who merged specifically thrash metal with punk, to make crossover thrash, which was later picked up on by other bands, such as DRI, Nuclear Assault and Cryptic Slaughter.
